Bariatric Surgery Post-Op: Day 1

Today is Bariatric Surgery Post-Op Day 1. The first day with my new, smaller stomach. I had the gastric sleeve yesterday and so far I can drink about an ounce of water in 15 minutes. Yesterday it was worse. Drinking caused the gag reflex pretty severely. My abdomen is pretty sore and getting up yesterday was difficult. In fact I needed to have someone help me up each time I

Surgery Day!

Today is the day! It’s surgery day! The day I cut out 2/3rds of my stomach and start a new life. I’m excited for my new life to begin and also a tiny bit nervous about cutting out a good chunk of one of my organs just so I can lose weight. I’ve lost 12 pounds on the bariatric surgery liquid pre op diet and of course that gets me

Bariatric Surgery Pre Op Liquid Diet days 2-14

I could have kept writing the same shit about how much the bariatric surgery pre-op diet sucks, but I was too busy getting all my freelance work done for the month so I would be able to relax after surgery. The bariatric surgery pre op liquid diet days 2-14 are the same as day 1. The only difference is by day 3 the headache has gone away as well as

Day 1 of Pre – Op Liquid Diet – Kill Me Now

Today is Day 1 of the pre-op liquid diet. I won’t lie, it sucks. It’s actually my 2nd Day 1 because originally my surgery was scheduled for a week sooner but the nurses at the hospital planned to strike during that time so it was pushed back by a week. Initially, like in the first two hours of my first day 1, I thought to myself, “I got this, this

I’m Having Bariatric Surgery

Today I met with the doctor who will perform a sleeve gastrectomy for me. I have decided to have bariatric surgery since I am unable to lose weight on my own and keep it off for any amount of time. I am just beginning a two year bariatric weight loss program and while a lot of it is overwhelming (because of insurance companies) I know it will be a decision

Still Struggling!

Ugh, keeping up a weight loss or fitness blog is difficult when you aren’t losing weight and losing weight has been nearly impossible it seems! I keep losing the same two or three pounds each week. Over and over again. It’s so frustrating that I end up giving up. I’m not sitting on the couch eating Oreos watching reality TV yet (I’m still kicking ass on my Fitbit with over

I Want Bariatric Surgery

I want bariatric surgery, I think. I’ve just about given up trying to lose weight on my own. My BMI is not high enough to qualify for bariatric surgery but because I have high cholesterol I still qualify for the procedure. I met with my doctor last week and he’s not completely against it.   I know a few people who have had bariatric surgery, the┬áRoux-en-Y gastric bypass procedure which

Whole30 Day 5

I’ve made it day 5 of the Whole30! I got on the scale today. I know I wasn’t supposed to but I just had to see if I had lost any weight. I’ve lost 7 pounds in five days on the Whole30!! I know it’s water weight and if I were to eat anything with sugar it would come back in spades but I’ll take it. It’s great motivation for

Whole30 Day 4

I’m on Day 4 of the Whole30 diet program. Still feeling really good and so far don’t miss the sugar that I’ve removed from my life. I do feel better. I’m not as achy but that could be partially due to the warmer weather we’ve been having now that spring is here. As I document my experience with the Whole30 I wonder how others fare? I have poked around in

Going for the Whole30 Weight Loss

I’m late to the party but I finally heard about the Whole30. There was a segment on the Today show about it and it sounded pretty interesting, at least from the success stories. One woman not only lost a lot of weight but she also got off all kinds of medications and said she felt better. Her before and after pictures looked like she’d lost a good ten years. I
